Welcome to the Lower East Side of Manhattan
There are so many places that are special about where our school is located! We are on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and people want to visit us! You will be creating a travel brochure for our visitors of certain places and landmarks that one would not want to miss during their visit!
This is a project created for Kindergarteners. This is linked to a unit on learning about one's neighborhood.
Task
You have been chosen to create this travel brochure for our visitors. It will need to include both illustrations and labels or simple sentences. The brochure should include at least one restaurant, one museum, a special landmark, and a school.
Each person in your group will do one page of the brochure.
Process
K Students: Take these steps!
Use the links (on the first page) to look at some of the places on the Lower East Side.
What do you see in the pictures?
Have you seen any of these places while walking in our neighborhood. Talk with your partners about which ones.
Draw a picture of what you are looking at on the websites, in your brochure booklet.
Add a label or a simple sentence--Is it a bridge? A museum? A market? A school?
Add color and make these brochures beautiful!
Assessment
The travel brochure will be assessed on a scale of one to four. The areas will be content, neatness, and writing. A four for content will be having all four pages, at least. A three would be 3 pages.A two would be 2 pages. A one would be 1 or no pages.
A four for neatness will be color and detailed pictures. A three would be appropriate pictures and color. A two would be pictures with no color. A one would be sloppy work. One cannot make out pictures. No color.
A four for writing would be simple sentences and labels. A three would be just labels. A two would be evidence of attempting to add words. A one would be no writing/words.
You will also be graded on how well you worked cooperatively in a group.
Conclusion
Congratulations! You have completed a brochure for our visitors! They will now know where to go when they arrive at the Lower East Side. It is important to have a plan when visiting a new place, and we have helped out a lot!
