In completion of this webquest, students will create a scrapbook of the road trip taken by the characters in Missing May.

Introduction

Welcome to the Missing May: Road Trip Scrapbook webquest. To complete this webquest, students will create a scrapbook of the road trip taken by Summer, Ob, and Cletus in Missing May in Chapters 9-11.

The characters see many sights on the turnpike and interstate, in Putnam County, and finally at the capitol building in Charleston, WV. Students will assemble pictures, brochures, flyers, and other memorabilia with captions to commemorate the road trip.

Task

The scrapbook will need to consist of at least five pages (other than the front and back covers):

1. Introduction

2. Leaving Deep Water

3. Sights from the Road

4. Putnam County

5. Charleston

Of the following artifacts, students must select seven (7) to include in the scrapbook in the appropriate location:

- pictures of luggage and groceries

- pictures of loading the car

- pictures of mountains

- pictures of houses

- pictures of toys or animals in lawns

- pictures of plants or factories

- pictures of the capitol building and downtown Charleston

- pictures of a coffee shop

- pictures of people in suits or business clothes

- pictures of display windows and storefronts

The following artifacts are required for each scrapbook:

- a flyer for Reverend Miriam Young, Small Medium at Large

- a flyer for the Spiritualist Church of Glen Meadows

- a flyer for the Science and Culture Center

- pictures of road signs from the turnpike/interstate

- pictures of street signs in downtown Charleston

All of the pictures and flyers need to include short captions: which can include what the pictures are of, why the student included them, etc.

The Introduction page must include 2-3 paragraphs explaining what the scrapbook is about. Students may pretend to be one of the characters: Summer, Ob, or Cletus. Help the person viewing the scrapbook to understand why the trip was important and special.
