Web Quests
What is a Web Quest, you ask? It's student-centered learning, technology, and higher order thinking all rolled into one great lesson plan.
The term Web Quest was first coined by Bernie Dodge, a professor at San Diego State University. The core of a Web Quest is a web site, created by the teacher, that leads the student through a learning task.
The Web Quest web site typically lays out an introduction, a learning task, a few resources to get started, and an assignment to complete using the newly found information. The format is designed to bring technology into the classroom and give students a chance to take the lead in their own learning.
The problem is... you need to know how to build a website. Well, not anymore.
Create a Free Web Quest
At Babel, we've created a simple system that helps you create a free Web Quest. All you need to do is write down what you want to be on the website, type it into a few empty boxes, and click "Save."
Our program does all of the work, and you end up with a nicely formatted website. No knowledge of HTML is required - just enter the information on the form and refer to the "How Do I?" page if you have any questions.
Before you can create a Web Quest, though, you need to register for a free account. This allows us to attach the Web Quest to you, so that you can go back and edit it at a later point... and so that only you can edit it.
So what are you waiting for? Start building your own Web Quest today!
Browse Completed Web Quests
Once a Web Quest is deemed to be complete by its author, it is published in our database. This makes it easier for you and your students to find the Web Quest - and it also allows other teachers to re-use what you've already created.
If you're not ready to create your own Web Quest just yet, browse through the ones that are already complete. You might find something that you can use in your own class. Or, you might find a great idea that you can use to create your own Web Quest.
Head over to the catalog and start browsing. Or, subscribe to the Web Quests RSS Feed and keep up to date when new Web Quests are published in the catalog.
